We’re saving you both time and research with this guide to making the most of March Break in downtown Kingston, featuring family-friendly fun with free and affordable activities and events. It’s the kind of week where screen time drops, and everyone goes home happy.

What makes March Break in downtown Kingston truly special isn’t just the unique activities; it’s the people, the local businesses, the artists, the librarians, and the shop owners who come together to create a welcoming space that shows up for families.  

Kingston Frontenac Public Library

Looking for a place where imagination, curiosity, and fun collide? Kingston Frontenac Public Library’s Central Branch is the perfect destination for families ready to mix learning with fun. This March Break, they’re offering a lineup of programs for varying ages:

The Rocking Horse

Looking for a morning packed with giggles, crafts, and a very special guest? The Rocking Horse, downtown Kingston’s go-to kids’ store, is hosting a March Break morning that little ones won’t stop talking about! Enjoy breakfast, crafts, games, a scavenger hunt and a meet & greet with the ever-so popular Bluey. Hurry, spots are limited!

Kingston Grand Theatre

An afternoon outing awaits where kids (and adults!) can join Curious George! Get ready to sing, dance, and giggle along with your little ones. Kingston Grand Theatre is bringing a brand-new musical to the stage that the whole family will love. 

  • March 15: Curious George: The Golden Meatball  

  • Time: 3:30 pm (All ages welcome)

March of the Museums

This free, city-wide festival, hosted by the Kingston & Area Association of Museums, Art Galleries and Historic Sites (KAM), is perfect for families ready to explore, discover, and have fun while learning about Kingston’s fascinating history. In downtown Kingston, start at the Kingston Visitor Information Centre, which features the Murney Tower Museum and offers more about the city. Nearby, check out nearby gems such as the Museum of Health Care, PumpHouse Museum, and the Great Lakes Museum. 

 

  • When: March 16 - 20  

  • Time: 10 am - 4 pm 

  • Cost: Free

Movies at The Screening Room

The Screening Room movie theatre is back with a deal just in time for March Break with their $6 family movie program! From March 16-20, enjoy a lineup of nostalgic films for the whole family, with plenty of showtimes to fit your schedule. The line-up includes: The Princess Diaries (2001), The Wizard of Oz (1939), Monsters, Inc. (2001), Mulan (1998), Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986), The Last Unicorn (1982) and Howl's Moving Castle (2004). 

 

  • When: March 16-20 

  • Time: 10 am - 6 pm.  

  • Admission: $6 + HST for all 

  • Kid snack combos: $6 + HST (small popcorn + juice box) 

  • Babies and toddlers aged 2 and under are free.

Improbable Escapes

School might not be in session, but that doesn’t mean the kiddos can’t have a fun, brain-teasing challenge this March Break. If you haven’t tried Improbable Escapes in downtown Kingston yet, now’s your chance! Warning: you do get locked in a room, but that’s the fun part! Each room is creatively themed, where, using problem-solving skills and teamwork, you’ll race against the clock to escape.

Discover ArtNoise

The ultimate creative shop for young minds to explore and let their imaginations run wild this March Break at ArtNoise! Each afternoon features crafts, art exercises, and open-ended creative projects, giving children the freedom to experiment and be inspired. Spots are limited!

Cheer on the Kingston Frontenacs

Hockey fans, get ready! Catch the Kingston Frontenacs as they hit the ice for two exciting home games at the Slush Puppie Place.

Level Up at Kingston Gaming Nexus

If your kiddos love video games, comics, or trading cards, Kingston Gaming Nexus is the place to be! This inclusive, community-driven hub in downtown Kingston offers a fun space for kids and teens to connect, play, and explore their favourite games and hobbies.

Stop by Minotaur Games & Gifts before March Break to explore all the goodies you didn’t know you needed, from toys, crafts, origami kits, and family board games. It’s the perfect spot to find fun ways to keep the kiddos entertained and maybe discover a game the whole family can enjoy.

Skating at Springer Market Square

Located behind City Hall, lace up your skates and glide across the ice at Springer Market Square! Outdoor skating is fun for all ages, and yes, BeaverTails is the sweet reward. Don’t have skates? Trailhead Kingston on Princess St offers rentals and sharpening!

Ride the Kingston Trolley Tour

Take a ride with Kingston Trolley Tours and see the city in comfort, no sore feet required. From historic landmarks to hidden gems, it’s a fun way for the whole family to explore Kingston and take in the sights.
