Sustainable Summer Style: Kingston's Must-Visit Thrift Shops
By Tianna Edwards
We are full throttle into summer! This is around the time of year that I have purged my closet, I have donated a ton of items and I begin to discover gaps in my wardrobe. I am really making an effort to shop thrifted items to be more conscious of my carbon footprint. I also love the thrill of finding an item at a thrift shop that fits perfectly – it feels serendipitous!
If you’re with me, I’ve curated a list of all of the thrift, vintage and consignment shops in the heart of downtown Kingston and what you’ll find in them to update your closet this summer. Each spot has a very specific vibe and I am here for them all. This list starts at the top of Princess near Clergy and ends at Wellington.

Located between Barrie and Clergy street on Princess street, this shop has a little bit of something for everyone! Very practical finds. They carry mens and womens clothing at reasonable prices. Great spot if you’re looking for seasonal staples like shorts, tanks and T shirts!
Budget: $$
Located north of Princess street Montreal, I’ve written about the collective before because I always find something great in there - usually fun blazers and dresses. They carry both mens and womens items. Lots of patterns and colours – they feature unique gems from many curators and the prices are incredible! They’ve just expanded their selection into the space next door that offers many more plus-size and formal dress options.
Check out their next vintage markets on July 14 and Aug 25 to see even more local vintage vendors.

Located on Princess street between Montreal and Bagot, thrifted modern and vintage pieces can be found here - both mens and womens. The best part is that proceeds go towards Almost Home to support families with children receiving medical care. Thrift shopping with a side of purpose - delightful!

Located at the corner of Wellington and Clarence, this thoughtfully curated thrift and vintage shop is home to two local buisnesses, Moxie and Mine and Thirfty Girl. This spot has great denim, lots of beautiful dresses and chic rompers.
And if you’re getting married or getting rid of your bridal gown, Moxie and Mine has a bridal consignment shop upstairs!
Budget: $$$$
Located at the corner of Brock and Wellington, you will find really amazing brands here curated by owner and stylist, Jesse Whale. Items are higher priced and often by sustainable brands. Things I’ve found here: never worn Nike Blazers, a matching knitted 70s style button-up and shorts. A great space for work staples or forever items that you know you’ll get a lot of wear out of.
Budget: $$
Located at the corner of Queen and Wellington, this is your spot if you love streetwear. A mix of mens and womenswear – so many fun and thoughtful curated vintage pieces can be found here. Lots of amazing sneakers! Go here if you’re looking for a unique pair of sneakers or a standout item to add flavour to your wardrobe.
Check out many of these stores at the Princess Street Promenades scheduled throughout the summer: July 20, Aug 3, Sept 21.
