Public Skating in Downtown Kingston
Get ready to glide into a winter wonderland at Springer Market Square's magical open-air skating rink. Open from December to March (weather permitting) daily from 8 AM to 10 PM, it's the perfect destination for free fun in Downtown Kingston!
Keep An Eye On The Ice.
The rink may close throughout the winter due to inclement weather or warmer temperatures not suitable for outdoor ice. Keep an eye on the Springer Market Square webcam to make sure the rink is open before your visit.
Downtown Skate Rentals
Rent Skates at the Square
Don't have skates? No problem! On-site hockey and figure skate rentals for adults and children are available:
- Fridays: 5 PM to 9 PM
- Saturdays: 1 PM to 9 PM
- Sundays: 12 PM to 5 PM
Rentals will be available on these days for the rest of the season, except for January 22 to 25.
- Where: Bottom floor of City Hall, locker room.
- Price: $10 for 90 Minutes

Rent Skates from Trailhead Kingston
Trailhead Kingston offers hourly and full-day skate rentals as well as skate sharpening so everyone can enjoy some time on the ice.
Trailhead is open Monday to Saturday from 9:30 am - 6:00 pm and Sundays from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Important Information for On-site Skate Rentals:
- Helmet Requirement for Skate Rentals: For the safety of young skaters, children 13 and under must wear a helmet to rent skates. Please bring your own helmet, as they are not available for rent onsite or at Trailhead.
- Parent or guardian signature is required for those 18 and under.
- ID is required to rent skates at the on-site location.
Warm Up By The Fire.
Cozy up around the outdoor fire pits in Springer Market Square with a warm bevy after your skate! The fire pits will be lit and tended to on the following days:
- Thursdays & Fridays: 5 PM to 9 PM
- Saturdays: 1 PM to 9 PM
- Sundays: 12 PM to 5 PM

Skating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Sunny days, warm temperatures and precipitation can cause the ice to become too thin and risk cracking. This can cause damage to the rink and poor conditions for skating.
Yes! There are public washrooms available in the lower Market Wing of City Hall via the North and South courtyards/ampitheatres. An accessibility ramp is available at the North entrance off Brock Street.
Washrooms are open 7 days a week, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
There's lots of rules and regulations to keep public skating safe and fun but here are the basics...
- Must always wear skates while on the ice.
- The middle of the ice is meant for children and beginners.
- Skate at a safe speed in the same direction as other skaters.
