Welcoming Streets is a new initiative designed to assist in creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment in downtown Kingston. The purpose of the program is to engage with individuals who may be experiencing homelessness, addiction, or mental health difficulties, and assist them in accessing the resources and support they may need. Additionally, we provide support and resources to downtown businesses and aim to divert police services from non police issues such as mental health and wellness check calls in the downtown Kington core.
Seven days a week from 9am-5pm, our dedicated team engages proactively with vulnerable individuals, collaborates actively with local social service organizations, and promotes positive social interactions. Our goal is to connect people with the services they need, foster a sense of belonging, support businesses, and build a stronger, more compassionate community so that Kingston's streets are truly welcoming for everyone.
Our Approach
-
Inclusive: We aim to create an inclusive downtown environment where individuals from all walks of life feel valued, respected, and included in the community.
-
Supportive: By providing support, resources, and fostering a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for our local businesses, residents, and visitors, Kingston will continue to grow and thrive as one of Ontario's most vibrant downtown cores.
- Engaging: Empowerment through connection creates support systems that help both businesses and marginalized individuals. These systems provide resources and address immediate needs, build resilience, and promote long-term well-being.
