A celebration of the resiliency of the Black community.

Emancipation Day commemorates the historic milestone of emancipation and celebrates the journey towards equality and unity. This series of vibrant and culturally enriching events serve as a platform to honor the courageous individuals who fought against oppression and slavery, while also fostering a sense of togetherness among diverse communities.

The City of Kingston has been working with residents and community partners to offer programming that recognizes Emancipation Day. This year’s theme is ‘Thriving In Colour' as a celebration of the resiliency of the Black community despite the ongoing fight against anti-Black racism and discrimination. Join the celebration by participating in these wonderful community events.
